About CM's Art
CM Addams is a freelance artist in Los Angeles, California who has a passion for drawing and painting "Symbolic Guro". CM has been creating art since they learned how to pick up a pencil. They began their artistic journey in their teen years as an escape outlet, frequently posting in online art communities. During this time, CM discovered "Guro Art", a Japanese artistic genre that began in 1929 during the Great Depression. She resonated quickly with it, finding it a moving way to express pent up emotions like pain, grief, helplessness, fear, and shame.
CM later attended and graduated from Auburn University of Montgomery, with a bachelors in Visual Arts; Minoring in Graphic Design and Creative Writing. There, CM was educated on the 19th century Symbolism Art and the 20th Surrealist Movement. They began resonating deeply with using symbols, dream like consciousness, and metaphorical images to predict deeper meaning. Somewhere down the road these three themes combined into what we call CM's work. Where they take the gritty concepts of the humans struggle and twists them into a story through grotesque symbols. To find beauty behind that darkness. Pleasure behind pain. Relief from fear. To unleash that pent up darkness is how we finally come to understand it. |
